Is Your Skin Ready For The Summer?

Summer is here at full blast. Is your skin prepared to brace the summer, and more importantly, ready for your summer holiday? Here we share a few tips for smooth, glowing skin from Dr. Sachin Dhawan and his skin care team:

1. Exfoliate to reveal glowing skin

Your skin care regimen should include regular exfoliation. Exfoliation removes the outer layer of dead skin cells, thereby revealing smoother and healthier looking new skin cells. However, be careful not to over-exfoliate or use harsh products or chemicals which can harm your skin or aggravate existing conditions like acne or eczema. Exfoliating products for the body like scrubs, wash clothes or brushes are effective in smoothing out rough skin. For a professional intervention you might consider microdermabrasion or gentle peels like glycolic acid peel.

2. Remove unwanted hair without irritation

If your method of choice is waxing, you should take care to protect your skin during and after the procedure. Be careful about the products you use for waxing as some can be harsh on the skin leading to rashes and red, bumpy spots.

Laser hair removal is a great option for long-term reduction in unwanted hair, without the pain, discomfort or frequent upkeep required by waxing. Laser, however, does temporarily increase the skin’s sensitivity to UV rays. So it is important to follow precautions, like keeping your skin covered and avoiding direct sunlight immediately after a laser procedure. If you must go out, remember to use sunscreen!

3. Get rid of cellulite

Cellulite is the term for the subcutaneous layer of fat which gives skin a dimpled or lumpy appearance. There is no exact cause for cellulite – both thin and overweight people have it – and nor is there a cure, per se. However, with the innovations in skincare technology, there are now treatments which are shown to be very effective in reducing cellulite and making your skin look smoother and healthier. We use Exilis Elite™ – an advanced non-invasive technology, to tighten skin and remove unwanted body fat for smoother skin. We also offer other treatment options like mesotherapy and lymphatic drainage therapy which reduce the appearance of cellulite and bring out your skin’s natural glow.

4. Eat well for glowing healthy skin

In general, keeping your skin hydrated is important all year round, but becomes important to keep track of in dry summer heat. Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juices (avoid those sugary bottled drinks!). Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Watermelon, pink guava, and tomatoes are rich in lycopene – an antioxidant that has been shown to help the body fight off the harmful effects of UV rays.  Citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes, are rich in vitamin C and amino acids like proline and lysine which boost collagen production for younger looking skin.
